La reina del Grindr is a music video I directed, produced, wrote, edited and post-produced for Kika Lorace. Released in the summer of 2017, it became one of her biggest hits — racking up over 2.7 million views on YouTube and landing on pretty much every best-of-the-year list in queer Spanish media. The song is a version of Black Magic by Little Mix, in its Cahill remix, with new lyrics by Álex Gilabert that dissect, with surgical precision and zero mercy, every type of man you’ll find on Grindr. Which turns out to be a lot of men.
The video has the visual energy of a variety show opener and a cast that fully commits: Allen King, Rita Singing, Hornella Góngora, Juan Flahn, Alejandro Romanov, Daniel Peinado, Alessis, Isaac Ruiz, Mohamed Chellaf and Álex Gilabert. Shot in Madrid, it came out the same year Kika received the Triángulo Award from COGAM for her career and activism for the LGBTQI+ community — which gives you some idea of the kind of year 2017 was for her.
